About the founder
After a Master’s in Cellular and Molecular Biology (Cum Laude), Freek van Hemert pursued a PhD in Biophysics at Leiden University, where the transition to software and IT architecture already began. In 2010 he joined Philips Research, where he saw High Throughput technologies transform his field from manual lab work into a computer- and data-driven world.
In that world, programming and building infrastructure was a natural step. A long-standing hobby with Linux became a professional foundation: from the smallest IoT devices to the largest supercomputers, everything runs on Linux. We use that knowledge to build complex environments using modern infrastructure-as-code principles. Freek did this at Philips, and more recently as an independent contractor for a drug repurposing startup.
Experience with Developer Advocacy, Project Leadership and Management and IT consultancy provides the basis to lead meaningful transitions in large organisations as well.
With a strong background in biology and healthcare, and a deep understanding of the building blocks of modern IT infrastructure, Freek founded Localmost in 2026.
